It's an idea that most artists are familiar with. The visual tools by which they express their thoughts and concerns. Sometimes visual vocabulary is pointed, specific and purposeful, or self-aware or pretentious. Sometimes it feels arbitrary and random but may really be an unconscious expression of the artistMeghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-58544204487090364602010-04-19T15:14:00.000-05:002010-04-19T15:14:53.845-05:00Graduate SchoolAs many of you know, I'm researching and getting ready to apply to Graduate school. I've given this many years of casual thought and a couple months of serious thought. I've narrowed it down to 5 schools in 5 different states. Seems like a fair number but it is misleading. There is only one school whose program feels like the right fit. Biggest problem so far?&Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-34855931594879660922009-10-03T15:48:00.001-05:002009-10-03T15:48:27.443-05:00Blog Re-Boot... and we're back online. So it’s been a long time since I’ve written. I had a blast writing my last blog/story and I think I psyched myself out. I kept waiting for a new story to find me and then I could relay it to you through my blog. But every time I thought I had found a great story, by the time I got home the idea had fizzled out. I didn’t think it would translate well, or I would get lazy thinking about the Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-71724714175714778922009-04-07T13:38:00.001-05:002009-04-07T13:40:15.366-05:00Don't Touch The ArtHad a little fun in the last few weeks. I was in a show for Bear Necessities, finished a sweater, started a knitted lace project (my first with actual lace yarn), made a felted Teddy Bear/Mouse (haven’t decided what it will be yet), and had a museum and dinner date with Michael and Steven (the highlight of the last two weeks!). But all in all, not a lot has happened. I didn’t sell anything at Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-7330443089374553292009-03-23T17:12:00.001-05:002009-03-23T17:12:29.859-05:00Heartbroken - I didn't get the job Hi Meghan,Thank you for the nice card. My apologies for not getting back to yousooner, between construction and finishing up interviewing all ourapplicants…everything has unfortunately been pushed back. I am sorry to say that at this time, we can not offer you employment. There are so many wonderful people (you included!) that we interviewedthat we would have loved to offer positions for but Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-54069687234177828922009-03-23T17:10:00.001-05:002009-03-23T17:10:55.106-05:0010 Days It’s been a busy couple of weeks. I’ve had interviews, visits, money issues, knitting projects, arguments, and paintings all happen in the last 10 days. Whew! Takes a lot out of ya! Where to begin?! Well, just about 10 days ago, an old friend called me up and asked if my boyfriend and I would like to be in a charity art and fashion show. I asked her to email me the details before I could Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-26160108040182987632009-02-27T17:20:00.004-06:002009-02-27T17:33:00.542-06:00Comic Art Battle at Pistol BazaarComic Art Battle at Pistol BazaarSo last night was Ezra Clayton Daniels famous Comic Art Battle. He and Heather Kortan own and run a really cool, concept greeting cards company called Loaded Blanks. They get local artists to create pictures and cartoons for cards and then leave the bubbles blank so you can fill them in as you wish. You can get a look at the cards on their Etsy site. Things slowed right down after that busy week. Luckily I worked all weekend at the bar, but didn't make as much money total what I would normally make on a Friday. It was a bummer. I'm trying to keep a calm head about my money issues. In fact, it would seem on the outside that I might not be giving it a thought at all but trust me, I'm just bottling it up inside.Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-14300199650076732492009-02-11T00:22:00.001-06:002009-02-11T00:25:34.465-06:00JamPackedBusyWeek!It is going to be and already has been a busy week! I finally finished the mittens for my Mom that match the hat I made her for Solstice. I made her the Sugar on Snow hat/neck-warmer. I made the mittens out of the same yarn, using the same baby cable rib on the wrists and then mitered the tops. This being my first pair of mittens, I used the Bernhard Ullman pattern and then adapted it for Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-54568924220855343292009-02-05T19:00:00.003-06:002009-02-05T19:03:05.396-06:00The Imposition Last night I had a friend over to watch t.v. and knit. She’s been having a rough time lately and needed some TLC. She lives, I swear, at a house that should be on reality t.v. Gossip Girl pales in comparison to the amount of drama that goes on in that house. It’s a 3-flat and all the tenants are friends. Or siblings. Or in relationships with each other. And they aren’t necessarily Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-5727756764720941262009-02-03T17:08:00.005-06:002009-02-03T18:07:10.366-06:00Punk Rock Knitting! The Sunday before Superbowl was a blast! Gabe picked me up from Noble Square Stitch 'n Bitch and took me to his band practice space. Along the way we picked up Willie, their lead singer. Now, I am not a musician, but they sat me down at the drum kit and let me bang my heart out. (I will say that it took a rapidly drunk beer to get me there!) So, after awhile I became more comfortable and Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-22928882640724021612009-01-26T13:04:00.001-06:002009-01-26T13:08:12.658-06:00Oh My GOD!!Oh my god! The sun is making the snow and ice do funny things. Unfortunately, my back steps are a death trap. My dog's are tear-assing down the stairs, sturdy on four feet, and I'm gripping the parts of the railing that aren't covered in an inch of ice, slowly inching my way down. The ice on the giant nuts and bolts was a pretty cool find.Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-73474630288993248972009-01-18T17:36:00.004-06:002009-01-18T18:09:49.458-06:002009 is the International Year of Natural FibresThe U.N. deemed that 2009 will be the International Year of Natural Fibers and plans to announce it in a celebration on January 22nd at the U.N. Agricultural and Commerce headquarters in Rome. The idea is to stimulate worldwide economy in small farming of natural fiber and to use sustainable farming and manufacturing practices.I find great inspiration in this. And with that ideal in mind, I Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-24649406349586068232009-01-11T10:50:00.007-06:002009-01-11T11:20:36.540-06:00Time to get cracking...Now that Christmas/Solstice is over, a number of projects vie for my creative attention. I'm finishing up a scarf for my sister and am knitting a pair of mittens for my mom. I'm concentrating on projects that I already own the tools for because work is slow and money is scarce. (Although I peruse the yarn shop websites constantly!) In fact, I have several things already started that I need toMeghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7186645449465515091.post-16721984091852937552009-01-08T13:08:00.002-06:002009-01-08T13:17:56.790-06:00This is an introductionHello all! I am starting a new blog in order to talk about art and fiber and knitting and dyeing and reading and anything else that necessitates a creative dialogue. If you are getting this as an email, then I have put you on the list to receive posts as I've written them and I thought you might be interested. If you don't want to receive these posts as emails, let me know and I'll be happy to Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17773144938109298093noreply@blogger.com0
